Infection Control
Everyone benefits from rigorous infection control you, Dr. Lewis, and the entire Penobscot Bay Dentistry team. We follow procedures recommended by several federal agencies: the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA,) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). These measures include:
- Use of gloves, face masks and disinfectant hand soap
- Chemical disinfection of countertops and surfaces
- Use of disposable materials
- Sterilization of all equipment before every use
We sterilize all reusable equipment, including dental handpieces (drills). We use an autoclave, a device that kills bacteria and viruses by steam, heat, and pressure.
The cornerstone of Penobscot Bay Dentistry’s excellent safety record is the element of trust. Your best defense against disease is information: The more you know about our daily procedures and policies, the more comfortable you will feel. Please feel free to discuss our use of universal precautions and infection control with Dr. Lewis at any time.
